Claudia Mann Appointed Director General of Statistics at European Central Bank

The Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) has announced the appointment of Claudia Mann as the new Director General of Statistics. In her new role, Ms. Mann will take the reins of the Directorate General Statistics, overseeing data management and governance at the ECB to address the evolving needs of a digital, globally connected world marked by rapid financial innovation.

Ms. Mann brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served as the Director of Internal Audit since 2018 and previously as Deputy Director General Finance. Prior to her tenure at the ECB, she held key managerial positions at prominent financial institutions, including Deutsche Bank and KPMG. Her educational background includes an MBA from the University of Tübingen and a degree in banking from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.

Ms. Mann succeeds Silke Stapel-Weber, who, despite her retirement, will continue to contribute as an adviser for the Integrated Reporting Framework project.

The Directorate General Statistics plays a crucial role in delivering statistical products, services, and a vast array of data that inform monetary policy and supervisory decisions at the ECB, while also serving the general public. Close collaboration with EU national central banks, competent authorities, Eurostat, the banking industry, and various international bodies underscores the significance of this role in the broader financial landscape.

Ms. Mann’s appointment underscores the ECB’s commitment to maintaining a strong foundation in statistics to navigate the ever-evolving financial landscape and fulfill its crucial responsibilities in the European and global financial sphere.
