Leading Canadian insurer Manulife has announced the appointment of Steve Finch as its new President and CEO for Asia, effective May 9, 2025. Finch will succeed Phil Witherington, who will step into the role of Manulife’s global President and CEO.

Steve Finch brings over three decades of experience at Manulife to his new position. Most recently, he served as the company’s Chief Actuary and a key member of its executive leadership team since 2016. Over the course of his 32-year career at Manulife, Finch has held various senior leadership roles, including Chief Financial Officer at Manulife’s US business, John Hancock, and General Manager of its US life insurance operations.

“Asia remains a critical growth engine for Manulife, and Steve’s deep commercial and functional understanding of our business, combined with his strong product knowledge and expertise in distribution across the region, makes him an ideal choice to accelerate our ambitious agenda,” said Roy Gori, current President and CEO of Manulife.

As Finch assumes his new leadership role, Manulife has confirmed that the successor for the Chief Actuary position will be announced in due course. Finch will work closely with the incoming Chief Actuary to ensure a seamless transition.

This leadership change underscores Manulife’s commitment to expanding its footprint across Asia, where it continues to view the region as a key driver of its long-term strategic growth.
