Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Academy, the premier education platform of DIFC, the leading global financial hub in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lloyd’s, the world’s foremost insurance marketplace. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance talent development in the insurance and reinsurance sectors across the MENA region, strengthening an already established partnership.
The agreement extends the reach of the Lloyd’s Academy, a specialized education platform for risk professionals based in London, into the Middle East. The partnership seeks to create a robust pipeline of talent through initiatives such as educational bootcamps, on-demand learning modules, and a series of industry-focused events.
The insurance sector presents immense opportunities for growth, especially in developing a skilled workforce to support its expansion. DIFC has been instrumental in fostering this growth by providing a dynamic ecosystem for talent development. Through the DIFC Academy, professionals in the (re)insurance industry can access world-class mentorship and learning opportunities. Non-profit organizations, such as the DIFC Insurance Association, further strengthen this ecosystem, creating a cohesive and collaborative insurance community.
Alya Al Zarouni, Chief Operating Officer at DIFC Authority, emphasized the importance of this collaboration:
“DIFC offers a world-class learning environment and guidance from renowned organizations to accelerate talent development within the sector. By expanding our relationship with Lloyd’s, we aim to nurture a burgeoning sector in DIFC, which now represents over 125 companies. Together, we are shaping the future of finance and driving growth within the region’s insurance industry.”
Dawn Miller, Lloyd’s Chief Commercial Officer and CEO of Lloyd’s Americas, highlighted the significance of partnerships in strengthening the insurance industry:
“Collaboration lies at the heart of Lloyd’s value proposition. The MoU between Lloyd’s Academy and DIFC Academy reinforces our shared commitment to talent development and industry-wide education. This initiative further supports the growth of the insurance sector in the Middle East, a region with immense potential.”
The latest agreement builds on a 2019 MoU between DIFC and Lloyd’s, which aimed to enhance the region’s insurance sector by upskilling talent and promoting sectoral efficiency. Since its inception, the DIFC Academy has supported the learning needs of over 32,000 graduates, offering professional development certifications and higher education courses tailored to the financial services industry.
By expanding its collaboration with Lloyd’s, DIFC Academy aims to position the MENA region as a global hub for insurance and reinsurance excellence. This partnership aligns with DIFC’s vision of fostering innovation, talent, and growth within the financial services industry.
