Visa, the global digital payments leader, has spotlighted the next major evolution in payments—Agentic AI—through its new whitepaper “Automation to Autonomy: How Agentic AI is Revolutionizing Payments”, launched at the Global Fintech Fest 2025. The paper outlines how autonomous AI agents will transform the way consumers shop, pay, and manage finances, positioning the global Agentic AI commerce market to reach $175 billion by 2030.
Agentic AI refers to intelligent systems capable of anticipating user needs, making decisions, and executing transactions within defined boundaries of consent, security, and spending control. According to Visa, 75% of global retailers expect AI agents to become essential for competitiveness by 2026, underscoring a rapid shift toward AI-powered, frictionless transactions.
For consumers, Agentic AI promises hyper-personalized, intuitive payment experiences—from automatically booking travel and redeeming loyalty points to managing disruptions and optimizing rewards in real time. Yet, Visa emphasizes that trust and data privacy remain central to adoption, especially as 79% of consumers express concerns about AI-driven commerce.
To address this, Visa is developing Visa Intelligent Commerce, a platform designed to create a secure, scalable framework for AI transactions. Built on tokenized credentials, issuer validation, and real-time decision-making, the platform ensures traceable, reversible, and consent-driven transactions through robust AI-ready APIs and network-level safeguards.
Sushmit Nath, Head of Visa Consulting & Analytics, India & South Asia, called Agentic AI “a revolution in how we engage with commerce,” highlighting Visa’s goal to empower consumers with choice and control while enabling businesses to unlock new value.
Visa stresses that collaboration, inclusion, and regulatory alignment will be key to unlocking the full potential of AI commerce—creating an intelligent, transparent, and secure ecosystem for the next generation of digital payments.
