Scotiabank Enhances Newcomer Banking with Digital Onboarding and Nova Credit Integration

Toronto, August 12, 2025 – Scotiabank has expanded its digital onboarding capabilities for newcomers to Canada by integrating Nova Credit’s Credit Passport® directly into its online credit card application process. This enhancement enables permanent residents and foreign workers in Canada for less than five years to leverage their international credit history from select countries, potentially qualifying for higher credit limits.

The bank, the first in Canada to embed Nova Credit’s service into its digital onboarding journey, also allows newcomers to open chequing, savings, and credit card accounts online after arrival—minimizing the need for branch visits. Through this streamlined process, newcomers can access Scotiabank’s StartRight™ Program, offering benefits such as one year of no monthly chequing account fees and no-fee international money transfers.

Scotiabank executives emphasized that the integration removes significant barriers to credit access and supports newcomers in building a strong financial foundation. Nova Credit highlighted the partnership’s potential to scale support for millions of newcomers who previously had to rebuild their credit from scratch in Canada.
