Nium & Ecobank Partner to Enhance Real-Time Cross-Border Payments across 35 African Markets

Nium

Global fintech Nium has announced a strategic partnership with Ecobank, aimed at enhancing cross-border payments for over 32 million customers across 35 African markets. This collaboration integrates Nium’s real-time payments infrastructure with Ecobank’s existing banking systems, streamlining services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in sub-Saharan Africa.

With this integration, Ecobank will leverage Nium’s API-based payment platform to improve transaction speed and accuracy, allowing customers to conduct cross-border payments in real time across over 220 markets globally. For Ecobank, this not only means seamless access to Nium’s Swift-compatible system but also reduces the complexity associated with cross-border payment APIs, enabling real-time transfers, tracking, and settlement updates for businesses and individual users alike.

The partnership marks a significant advancement in financial inclusion across Africa by granting SMEs and other businesses better connectivity to global markets. Through real-time payments, Ecobank aims to support the growth of African enterprises, facilitating smoother, faster financial exchanges across borders. This is particularly valuable in regions where traditional banking processes can be slow or unreliable.

The collaboration aligns with Nium’s broader goal to democratize access to efficient cross-border payment networks. By enabling real-time payments experience for Ecobank’s customers, Nium’s platform is poised to make significant contributions to global financial inclusion, especially within developing economies.
